A unique gift, a cherished legacy
|
Roccascalenga Remembered is a commission for
the Ahlfs family. The structure is what remains standing of
her grandfather's home. I developed value sketches
from photos taken by the Ahlfs during their recent trip to Italy.
Comments from the Ahlfs:
"We gave Paula two photographs of my Italian grandfather's
home in Roccascalenga and we talked with her about this very
special place. Shortly thereafter we met with Paula and she
showed us two different preliminary sketches, both quite lovely,
but also very different. Which one to choose? Our ensuing
discussion with Paula helped us reach a decision based on our
sense of place and feelings we had experienced while walking
the path through the olive trees.
When Paula unveiled the final painting for us, we were in awe.
Not only had she created a poignant reminder of the house and its
surroundings, she had captured a mood that resonated for both
of us."
